BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Norah McCann King was born in Steubenville, Ohio. She received a B.A., cum laude, from Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois (now Dominican University) and a J.D., summa cum laude, from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. She was an editor for The Ohio State Law Journal and is a member of the Order of the Coif.

Judge King began her legal career as a law clerk to United States District Judge Joseph P. Kinneary.  She was also employed as Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University and engaged in the private practice of law in Columbus, Ohio.

In June 1982, Judge King was appointed to the first of four terms as United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Ohio.  She served as Chief Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Ohio from 2000 to 2004.  Judge King also served for many years as the coordinator of the Settlement Week program at the Columbus seat of court.  She is currently serving on recall status.

Judge King has taught courses in legal writing, mediation and trial practice at the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.  She has been recognized by the Columbus Bar Association (Award of Merit), the Ohio Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (Professionalism Award) and the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law (William K. Thomas Distinguished Jurist Award).
