The United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio will hold a Teachers Institute for high school teachers on July 28, 2017. It will take place at the Joseph P. Kinneary United States Courthouse, 85 Marconi Boulevard, Columbus Ohio 43215. Chief United States District Court Judge Edmund A. Sargus, Jr. and United States Magistrate Judge Michael J. Newman will host the event. Teachers will be provided an overview of the federal court system, participate in a mock trial on a federal case and receive plenty of resources to use in the classroom. The mock trial will be held on Elonis v. U.S. This case is first time that the Supreme Court of the United States agreed to hear a case involving the constitutionality of prosecuting potential threats in a social media context. Participants will also receive certificates for contact hours. Lunch will be provided. Click below for the registration form.
