Cincinnati Union Terminal site of Naturalization Ceremony -- Sept. 6, 2025

The historic Cincinnati Union Terminal hosted a naturalization ceremony on Sept. 6, 2025.

As part of the museum's “1940s Day,” 20 people took the Oath of Allegiance and became United States Citizens.

United States District Judge Susan J. Dlott presided over the ceremony.

The Cincinnati Museum Center inspires people of all ages to learn more about the world through science and regional history, using educational, engaging, and meaningful experiences. The ceremony was held on the catwalk overlooking the central rotunda. Many museum patrons watched and cheered as the new citizens celebrated above.

The national anthem was played toward the end of the ceremony, with many people looking toward the giant American flag that hung above.

The ceremony was the last step of a journey that takes years to complete to become an American citizen. The candidates were lawful residents of the United States who passed required background checks, proven their good moral character, and passed English reading, writing, and speaking tests. They also passed a U.S. history and civics exam.

Naturalization ceremonies often take place in a federal courtroom, but the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio hosts several naturalizations at community locations across southern Ohio to showcase an essential role of the Judiciary and connect with the community it serves.

The 20 people who were naturalized American citizens were from many different countries including Bhutan, Canada, China, Egypt, Ghana, India, Liberia, the United Kingdom and Uzbekistan.
