Diversity Mission Statement

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio is committed to diversity, equality, and inclusion in all its practices.

The Southern District of Ohio covers a broad geographic area encompassing 48 urban and rural counties from just north of Columbus south to the Ohio River.

According to the latest U.S. Census data, there are about 6 million people living in these counties of different cultures and ethnicities. About 51% identify as female, while 49% identify as male.

The racial demographic of the District, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau data, is about:

White: 75%

Black or African American: 13%

Hispanic or Latino: 4%

Multiracial: 4%

Asian: 3%

Other race: 1%

Also, according to the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law, about 4.3% of Ohioans identify as part of the LGBT community.

It is a priority for the Court that everyone who has business before it is treated fairly. The Court will continue to have policies that encourage diversity and equality.
