United States District Court Judge Jeffery P. Hopkins was recognized by the Ohio State Bar Foundation with the Ritter Award for his contributions to the legal profession. Judge Hopkins was honored by the Foundation at it’s All Rise Annual Awards Celebration. The Ritter Award is the highest honor awarded by the Foundation. The award is given for a lifetime of service and recognizes the accomplishments of the honoree in attaining and promoting the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and ethics in the practice of law. It also recognizes an individual who assists other attorneys, the Courts and the public to envision and cause changes which improve the justice system in Ohio. Judge Hopkins joined the Court in 2022 and before that served 26 years as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge, including serving as that Court’s Chief Judge. In naming Judge Hopkins the award recipient, the Ohio State Bar Foundation commended him for being a respected leader in the legal and local community. He has contributed as an educator, lecturer and board member for several cultural institutions. Judge Hopkins’s dedication to public service and legal excellence continues to inspire and shape the legal profession. This is the second time in five years that a Judge from the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio has won the Ritter Award. Judge Newman won the award in 2020.
