U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Ohio Michael J. Newman was selected to share his civic-related experiences with other federal judges recently at the Federal Judicial Center National Workshop for District Judges
The Courts are committed to enhancing the public trust and confidence of the judiciary and increasing public awareness about the role and functions of the federal court.
Judge Newman has brought a focus on Civics since joining the Southern District of Ohio. Hundreds of students have been invited to take field trips to the Courthouse this year where they heard from numerous federal officials and were able to watch a reenactment of a court hearing.
Judge Newman shared his experience about running the program aimed at teaching students and educators about the justice system, the role of the law in a democratic society, civil discourse, and civic responsibility.
The national workshop took place in Charleston, South Carolina and Judge Newman was joined on a panel by the Honorable Landya B. McCafferty of the District of New Hampshire and the Honorable Robin L. Rosenberg of the Southern District of Florida.
