Audio Streaming Pilot Program

Monday, July 25, 2022

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio has been approved to participate in a pilot program to livestream audio of certain civil proceedings involving matters of public interest.

The Court has entered General Order 22-17, which adopts a change to the Local Rules and authorizes district and magistrate judges in the Southern District of Ohio to participate in the pilot program.

Consistent with guidelines established by the Court Administration and Case Management Committee, audio from eligible civil hearings may be streamed live on the Court’s YouTube channel and will be available for playback after proceedings have ended for up to one year.

If a case is determined to be eligible, all parties must consent to livestreaming. Trials and proceedings involving live witness testimony, or sealed, confidential, or classified materials are excluded from the pilot. A schedule of upcoming proceedings will be available on the Court’s website, where individuals may also sign up to receive email notifications.

The Judicial Conference of the United States, the national policy-making body for the federal courts, has authorized this pilot program. The pilot will be administered by the Judicial Conference’s Court Administration and Case Management Committee and the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts and will be used to study the feasibility of livestreaming audio of district court civil, bankruptcy, U.S. Court of Federal Claims, and U.S. Court of International Trade proceedings.
