BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Norah McCann King received her B.A., cum laude, from Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois (now Dominican University) and her J.D., summa cum laude, from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. She was an editor for The Ohio State Law Journal and is a member of the Order of the Coif. Judge King began her legal career as a law clerk to United States District Judge Joseph P. Kinneary, was an Assistant Professor at the Ohio State University, and engaged in the private practice of law in Columbus, Ohio.

Prior to her appointment as a United States Magistrate Judge in 1982, the Southern District of Ohio had never had a female judge. During her four terms as an active Magistrate Judge, Judge King served as the District’s Chief Magistrate Judge from 2000 to 2004 and served for many years as the coordinator of the Settlement Week mediation program at the Columbus seat of court.

Judge King has taught courses in legal writing, mediation, and trial practice at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. She has been recognized by the Columbus Bar Association (Award of Merit), the Ohio Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (Professionalism Award), and The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law (William K. Thomas Distinguished Jurist Award).

Judge King retired as an active Magistrate Judge in 2014 and is currently serving on recall status. In that capacity, she has been assigned to assist the Southern District of Ohio, the Eastern District of Michigan, the Middle District of Tennessee, and the District of New Jersey.
